Google has announced the termination of the service Google Code. Liquidation hosting happen as early as next year, namely on 25 January. In other words, the user is still about 10 months in order to remove the project from the server Google, before service will be gone forever.

The decision to close it was taken due to the fact that according to the company it is no longer popular. When Google Code was first launched in 2006, users do not have much choice among repositories for open source. Google has decided that it is necessary to provide users with such a service, to promote the development of open source-projects. However, since then gained a lot of popularity services such as GitHub and Bitbucket. Thus, many users instead of Google Code began to use more powerful services.
At one point, a Google Code took about 1,000 projects on GitHub service only because the majority of developers use the latest. However, it is worth noting that Google is not making significant efforts to improve the Code, therefore, such an outcome is highly anticipated.

Currently, most of the projects on Google Code - it is nothing more than spam. According to the company, management service today reduced mainly to the removal of such projects. In this regard, it was decided to close the service. Even today, there is no possibility of creating a new project using Google Code, and from August 24 service will be available in read only mode.
Finally, the project will be closed until January 2016, so if your code is stored in the Google Code, should be moved to another location. To facilitate this task in the Code there are special tools for direct export projects on services like GitHub and SourceForge.
